Before becoming a teacher I had worked as a breeder of pIants, both in the field and in a lab. I enjoy incorporating Science into Inquiry Learning through building skills to investigate the world we live in. I am passionate about engaging students in their faith through service and actions for Social Justice so that they are positive global citizens. This view is based on experiences in the classroom and as a Social Justice Leader. Children having a strong intrinsic motivation to make positive changes in the world. In teaching this, I draw on experiences of volunteering in a remote school in the Kimberly and in Uganda, Africa, working alongside Indigenous people on traditional land management in Victoria and building low cost housing in the Philippines with people who lived and worked on a rubbish tip as part of a Social Justice Immersion. Recent Professional Development: Berry Street Education Model- positive psychology interventions for the classroom Coaching- Literacy Approaches for Foundation based on the Victorian Curriculum and Fountas and Pinnell National Music Teacher Mentoring Program- enhancing learning and thinking through incorporating music Drive: A wise mentor once told me that as a teachers we choose to be in the classroom but our students have to come everyday whether they want to or not. This concept is the basis of my goal to make the classroom a safe and stimulating place for all children. In our classroom we support and encourage each other to try new things and celebrate our learning. To support this goal I have recently completed training on the Berry Street Education Model which uses a Positive Psychology approach and helps build skills for self regulation and success in learning. I hope to model to my students that we are always learning and that it is a lifelong process. I am currently being mentored as part of the National Music Teacher Mentoring Program and I am enjoying learning from an expert about an area I am neither confident or competent in.At Christ The King I currently teach Foundation and aim to build strong literacy skills in the students as the building blocks for their future learning success. I am an avid reader and fill every spare minute in the classroom with quality children’s literature to set students up for a lifetime of enjoying reading. |
