National Championship, Macquarie University, Sydney

Term 4, 2016

On Saturday 10th December, 2016, Mrs Blackley, Mrs Kristiansen, Mr Mark Campbell, eight students and their parents, all travelled to Sydney to compete in the Australian National Championship for First Lego League. Each year, teams build, program and compete with a robot, while also learning about a modern problem in science and engineering and developing solutions for it. This year’s challenge was based around Animal Allies and our team researched the Northern Pacific Sea Star and its impact on native marine ecosystems. After staying the night at Macquarie University, the students were up bright and early in readiness for a big day of action. They participated admirably in all sections of the competition - Core Values, Research Project and the Robot Game. The students came an amazing 5th overall out of a staggering 40 State teams, most of which were comprised of secondary students. Christ the King couldn’t be prouder of the team - CRE8TE THE FUTURE! We look forward to participating again next year and further developing our dedication to STEM Education (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics).
